With your help, we fight the big fights, working to end all forms of companion animal cruelty to achieve the vision behind our name: A Humane Kansas.

The Humane Society Legislative Fund of Kansas is a non-profit political advocacy organization committed to...

  • Passing or opposing critical legislation regarding companion animal welfare and protection.

  • Electing humane candidates to office during state-wide elections.

  • Educating the public regarding important issues impacting companion animal health and safety.

We stand up and advocate for companion animals who are suffering.

Our major focus in Kansas is ending puppy mills, preventing the return of greyhound racing, prohibiting exotic animal ownership and trade, fighting animal cruelty and neglect, and more.

What We've Achieved

  • Provided guidance to the Kansas Department of Agriculture to help allow for the adoption of FIV+ cats in Kansas.

  • For three years, defeated the reinstatement of greyhound racing.

  • Spearheaded the effort to pass the Kids and Pets Left in Hot Cars Bill (now law!).

  • Ensured unannounced facility inspections, and no-show and failed inspection fees for commercial animal breeding facilities.

  • Ensured less burdensome inspection fees for our animal shelters and rescues.

  • Strengthened the law to help local governments and law enforcement recover the cost of animal care in cruelty cases.

  • Amended the law to prohibit animals from being returned to or remaining with a person found guilty of animal cruelty.
